Fang-Yi obtained her bachelor degree of science in Department of Atmospheric Sciences at National Central University in Taiwan in 2000. In 2003, she obtained her master degree in Geosciences Department at University of Houston. She received her Ph.D in Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at University of Houston in 2006. Her Ph.D. dissertation is to understand impact of meteorological changes due to land use and land cover differences on Houston’s high ozone problem (dissertation advisor: Professor Daewon Byun).
After the graduate school, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow in IMAQS (Institute for Multi-dimensional Air Quality Studies), University of Houston to implement a new inorganic gas-aerosol equilibrium module, UHAERO, into the U.S. EPA Models-3/CMAQ 3-D air quality model to assess the aerosol prediction capability. She also studied the boundary layer processes in coastal and urban environments to improve meteorological simulations for air quality assessment.
Fang-Yi joined the Hydrologic Research Center (http://www.hrcwater.org/)in San Diego, California as a Post Doctoral Associate in May 2008. She worked with Panama Canal Authority on the Panama MM5 weather forecasting system to support the hydro-meteorological forecasting system in Panama. She also studied the climatological wind fields in Panama Canal watershed using 10 years observed hourly surface wind data and numerical model simulations. She worked on the project of Integrated Forecast and Reservoir Management (INFORM) which is an integrated forecast and water management system for the Northern California river and reservoir system. INFORM provides the real-time meteorological/climatological and hydrological forecasts. This study is beneficial for supporting the water management program in Northern California.
Fang-Yi joined Department of Atmospheric Sciences, National Central University in August, 2009 and life will continue.........
