The development of fuel cell technology has become an important worldwide trend in recent years, due to the advance of innovative technology, multiple pressures of green issues, and a shortage of energy resources . In addition, besides various catalyst and electrochemistry technologies, the storage and transportation hydrogen remains a critical choke-point. IMES has conducted profound research on these topics, with the results being widely recognized within the academic community. On hydrogen storage, we have the best and most completed research and analysis lab within nation. We are also conducting joint projects on hydrogen with Taiwan Power Company, Industrial Technology Research Institute, Chung-Shan Institute of Science & Technology, Institute of Nuclear Energy Research, and Chung Hsin Electric & Machinery Corp.
Apart from hydrogen energy, we are researching other renewable energy sources and energy conservation as well, including solar cells, LEDs, and thermoelectric materials. The development of high performance stored energy in the form of rechargeable batteries and supercapacitors is another major focus. Given this excellent faculty and research atmosphere, NCU Institute of Materials Science and Engineering can expect to have a bright future.
